The phrase "Roulette" is French and in fact it means "small wheel". While it may seem that due to the fact "Roulette" is a French word that the game itself comes from France, but this is not necessarily true. There are a number of different hypotheses varying from the game originating in China, along with ancient Rome. Quite a few who are convinced the roulette came from China, think that Dominican Monks that were dealing with the Chinese delivered the roulette back to Europe. The Roman idea is centered on accounts that Romans would flip their chariot wheels and spin them as a form of amusement.
A slightly much more popular theory is that the French researcher Blaise Pascal, credited with the probability theory, created the roulette wheel. Evidently, it was the by-product of one of his numerous experiments.
Eventually, in Eighteen Forty Two, the French brothers Louis and Francois Blanc invented the roulette game we know these days. They devised the Single Zero version used by most countries within the world. A story about Francois Blanc, is that he seemingly sold his soul to Satan in order to acquire the key of roulette. Conspiracy-nuts confirm this tale by the fact that all the numbers on a roulette wheel added up to "666".
Although the Blanc brothers’ game was a resounding success, betting was still against the law in France so it was introduced in Hamburg instead. Betting was eventually prohibited in Germany as well, nevertheless, but then The Prince of Monaco invited Louis to run his Monte Carlo gambling house and reacquaint the folks with the casino game of roulette.
When brought over to America, the single Zero model of roulette was forgotten in favour of the "00" model of roulette. Right now, so as to distinguish between these two variants, the "00" version is called the American Wheel whilst the "0" model the European Wheel.
